Being Grateful

Image
Elder Bednar told a story in his conference talk last week that I haven't been able to get out of my mind. It was about a couple with a four year old daughter who suddenly became very ill. The parents prayed for her to be healed, but she just got worse. Eventually they realized that she would not live, they began to pray for understanding rather than healing. Then the most touching part of the story....

"Soon his daughter was in a coma, and the father knew her hours on earth were few. Fortified with understanding, trust, and power beyond their own, the young parents prayed again, asking for the opportunity to hold her close once more while she was awake. The daughter’s eyes opened, and her frail arms reached out to her parents for one final embrace. And then she was gone. This father knew their prayers had been answered—a kind, compassionate Father in Heaven had comforted their hearts. God’s will had been done, and they had gained understanding." -Elder Bednar

You can't help but be grateful for your children after hearing this story. Every day, including the hard days are great blessings. As sad as this story is, I hope it continues to stick in my mind so I don't take the time I have with my loved ones, especially Devri, for granted.

What a great talk! I always love to hear Elder Bednar speak- he is one of my favorites. I also loved Elder Ballard's talk on mothers.

I think that is the most important thing that I got from conference! I need to enjoy all the little moments. Too often I take what time I have for granted.
